Introduction

I have 2 main hobbies...one involves burning calories, and the other involves making food that contain a lot (seriously, loads) of calories.

I started cycling in 2009...I'd been running for a couple of years, but kept getting injured, so a friend suggested I give triathlon a go, as the runs were shorter. I got my first bike, and quickly fell in love with the sport. In 2010 I cycled from John O'Groats to Lands End, and soon after decided to focus just on cycling...this was partly forced by an unfortunate discussion with a car that left me with a gammy shoulder, making running and swimming too painful to continue with. After a bit of reflection, I threw myself 100% into cycling, and I've spent the last 2 years learning about pack-racing, and what's the best way for me to train (I also have a coach, which helps no end!)

I started baking in 2012...we'd just moved house, and the kitchen was a large, beautiful room, and Great British Bake-Off was in full swing, inspiring everyone to cover themselves in flour. I quickly found I enjoyed the technical aspect of baking..it's very scientific, and as an added bonus you get to eat the results!

The (hopeful) purpose of this blog is to document my 2016 efforts to improve in both hobbies. For cycling, I'm hoping to work towards my cat 2 racing license, as well as get fitter, and stronger. For baking, I want to improve my repertoire, and (specifically) improve my presentation. Tracking the cycling is easy...I log everything on Strava, and all my training, races and rides should appear on the right-hand side.

For baking, I'll be putting up recipes and results (good and bad) as blog posts.
